F.R.O.G. Linnet

The FROG Linnet was part of a range of six models that made up the FROG Senior Series produced between 1953 and 1969.

Like all kits in the FROG Senior series, the parts were die-cut and simple to put together resulting in a near scale representation of full-size sports planes of the era.

This kit is a laser-cut replica of the original FROG Linnet.

Construction of the model from this kit uses the traditional method of "stick and tissue", that consists of a built up balsa wood skeleton (framework), covered with a tissue skin.

The balsa frameworks are built over a plan that is printed at the exact scale of the model, which is in essence a real engineering drawing.

Power is provided by rubber strip motor that is wound up before flight. Free flight means just that - once the model is launched, it is on its own. It must follow a predetermined flight path established when the model is initially adjusted for flight or "trimmed".

This type of traditional building technique and flying requires a degree of patience and skill, but is extremely rewarding.

Balsa wood sheets with precise laser cut parts and strip wood.

Flies right off the ground!
Saturday, 15 June 2019  |

A good fast kit to put together, The laser cut sheets and balsa used are great. Id says its better for people who have built a few kits already as some of the wording on the old frog plans is a bit vague unless you have an idea of what needs doing. A nose block will also need to be built to hold the nose cone in but this is very easy to do with some of the scrap wood

As far as flying goes it really lives up to the FROG motto, and flies straight off the ground! Mine taxied down the kitchen and out the back doors, stalled and ended up in a bush in the neighbours garden! Great stuff! Will need a touch of nose weight to fix this but a wonderful kit and a strong robust flyer that can take a few knocks in testing

Tricky to build and not a beginners model as a lot of thought is needed to build from the plan , however, brilliant when finished. Model was balanced at the wing mid spar and then taken for trim flights. The model wanted to climb then stall, so 2 trim tabs were added to each side of the tail plane and bent slightly down. The model now lands perfectly on its wheels.
