The KK Senator is probably the best performing, vintage, rubber-powered, cabin duration model available with relatively simple construction that should present the intermediate builder with few challenges.

One of the Senator's most distinctive features is an unusual single leg undercarriage to reduce drag.

Our replica kit includes top quality laser-cut parts to aid accurate, speedy building.

Very highly recommended and top of its field.

Experienced builders please note that the Senator can easily be modified to take lightweight electric motor and 3 channel R/C equipment, for relaxed summer evening flying.

A super video clip here showing the trimming process for a KK Senator. These old birds just fly so superbly well.

This kit is a laser-cut replica of the original Keil Kraft Senator.

Construction of the model from this kit uses the traditional method of "stick and tissue", that consists of a built up balsa wood skeleton (framework), covered with a tissue skin.

The balsa frameworks are built over a plan that is printed at the exact scale of the model, which is in essence a real engineering drawing.

Power is provided by rubber strip motor that is wound up before flight. Free flight means just that - once the model is launched, it is on its own. It must follow a predetermined flight path established when the model is initially adjusted for flight or "trimmed".

This type of traditional building technique and flying requires a degree of patience and skill, but is extremely rewarding.

Lovely Model
Wednesday, 20 February 2019  |

After a gap of more than 50 years from building this type of model aeroplane I have just completed making a Senator for my grandson. I was very impressed with the quality of the kit. Good wood selection and I particularly relished the laser cut wing ribs. The whole building process was a Joy with, perhaps, the exception of tissue covering. I always found this a challenge and nothing has changed with the passing of the years.
First test flight went very well requiring very little trimming. Several powered flights have followed and what a lovely flyer the Senator is. We finished the day with an intact aeroplane and two very happy young boys.
A small final comment. The Senator is classed as a beginers model. In the great scheme of things rubber powered models like this are beginers models but no way would I recomend this as a youngsters first kit. They will need the experience of building simpler models first to develop their competency.

Thank you for the kind words David.
We're delighted that you and your grandson had such fun flying the Senator.
We've taken on board your comments about the Senator being a tough ask for a beginner and have amended the model's description as suitable for the intermediate builder.

It's thirty years since I - as a wide eyed ten year old - launched my dad's Senator. One of the many magical Keil Kraft moments of my youth.

My dad was a perfectionist at model building - and his Senators were often stars of the show.

Now I've built my own and flown it with my son thanks to the Vintage Model Company.

Pure magic. I strongly recommend this model, and doing business with the Vintage Model Company.

Thanks for the kind words Billy and thank you too for introducing another youngster to the joys of true aeromodelling!
