Spitfire?
Monday, 30 December 2013  |

I think the phantom Mite appeared around 1949, I know I built one in about 1950.
I believe it was a Keil Kraft Kit and came with sturdy balsa wings that needed shaping and a very strong fuselage.
I fitted a 1cc ED Bee Diesel. Unfortunately the power was down and the performance was poor. A glow engine would be better and engine mounts unnecessary if the engine could be mounted to the bulkhead. This would reduce the weight, but the bulkhead would need to be re-inforced.
I have just built another Phantom Mite and realised that it has a Spitfire profile, the Phantom merely being a larger version.
I think any undercarriage is undignified and just adds drag. The Phantom Mite makes a good first control line model because its strong and forgiving. It will need fuel-proofing but is well worth the effort. It is very easy to build and looks good in Black with Invasion strips
